(35,663 posts)and miraculous that they got back together. Lesson: never give up hope!!
Now me, on the other hand, I have genuine, bone fide cranks. They are always crabbing about something. Nothing is ever good enough for them, and they always meow plenty to tell me about it.

(5,066 posts)So I get the message that an elderly woman needs to rehome the cat she's raised from a kitten. He doesn't want to play or cuddle, but when he bit her and put her in the hospital, her family put their collective foot down. Cat must go.
I'm struggling with the headline. So far I've got "Unfriendly Cat Who Will Bite You." Needs some work. And since he's been with her for several years, I don't think he's heartbroken over a previous home. Sigh. I'm glad this guy had a happy reunion.

If your skin is thick enough to deal with the biting demands of Gummy-Cat, take off your kitty [sic] gloves and give him a fresh taste of freedom.

(21,447 posts)friendly but aloof with strangers if I'm not around. Takes time for her to warm up to people she doesn't know. I boarded her at the vet's when I took a week long trip. When I returned to pick her up, they said she had been VERY hostile to the staff. They had to wear protective gloves to feed her and clean the cage.
They asked me to join the employee who was going to get her for me, in the hope that my presence would help. She was completely buried under a blanket in her cage. When I called her name, the blanket moved. Slowly she peeked out at me. Looked surprised. Crawled out from the blanket and went to the cage door. The employee backed away, but I poked my fingers through the cage bars and kitty rubbed against them.
I gave the carrier to the staff and opened the door. Staff held her breath while I picked up my gal and snuggled my face next to hers. She started purring and I put her into the carrier.
Staff could not believe the change in her, from hostile wild cat to gentle kitty. For the next few days at home she clung to me wherever I went. I felt guilty for deserting her for a week.

(44,973 posts)A vet assistant had to wear protective gloves to get my cat into a carrier after a short boarding experience.
Cat looked completely insane in its crate while being boarded, hissing and growling. Cat only calmed down after he got home.

(21,447 posts)she could not understand what was happening. For no apparent reason, from her perspective, she no longer had her home to run freely in, but was confined to a cage with strangers coming and going. She had been to the vet before, but did not know the staff who handled the kennel area, and associated the vet office with offenses against her body due to shots, claw clipping, and spaying surgery.
She must have felt deserted, and was obviously surprised and happy to hear my voice.
She is normally affectionate, mischievous, and very much a climber. They would not allow her toys or bed in the kennel area either for sanitation reasons because it is also the post surgery recovery room. If I board her again, I will need to find a different place where she can at least have familiar items with her.

(44,973 posts)into an aggressive and hissing cat. He is normally not that insane. Some cats don't take well into being in a crate. So their personality in a shelter could be completely different from their personality in a home environment.
If one went by personality of my cat while boarded, people would think he was feral.

(5,657 posts)Couldnt bring my cat, Boone.
My sister adopted him and he was living a good life with them. I visited for the first time and as soon as I sat down I said Boone,Boone,Boone and that cat froze and looked around wildly then came running! Snuggle snuggle. Claw claw purr purr! It was amazing the reaction and his memory. He was a good dude. He passed away last year.
