Or do the noises serve to give notice to any nearby predators that the newborn will NOT be a quick easy snack (if grandma and the aunts have anything to say about it -- and they will!)

(31,483 posts)7. I saw a documentary a few years ago that mentioned tuskless elephants.
One theory was that so many had been killed for their tusks that the tuskless gene was becoming more prevalent in many herds.
