I needed a laugh, and this did it.
Work in the womens fashion field, in design and......this was a miss. So funny. Check out all of the pics.
I have to say the men look great.
New rule. If you can put a bonnet on and it matches the prairie dress, maybe the design was too literal.

(7,820 posts)dresses than if this hadnt gone viral? Doubt they care if the dresses are bought ironically or people think theyre ugly 🙂

(1,200 posts)However, it wasnt the intent. And the design team may be hearing about it. Trust me on this part.
The industry can and does take itself seriously. Which isnt good,--- but The Devil Wears Prada movie isnt actually an exaggeration.
Of course Marketing is figuring out how to be in on the joke, and do PR to embrace it.
As a side, I love how many chickens are in the photos.

The designer needs to look for another line of work.
Maybe garbage bag design.

(1,200 posts)And be so off. Too literal. Design happens just under a year out so this could have been designed last March. But you can always cancel. I think they are probably 5 or 6 months out, so ???. And full teams of cross functional people hold hands on this stuff.
Like 100s of thousands of unit buys.
Times what looks like 4 or 5 dresses too.
Ouch.

(46,880 posts)Maybe the pandemic meant supply line problems, people working from home.
A lot of people out because they were ill.
Right there are quite a number of different styles in this line.
Ouch is right.

(1,200 posts)Yep. Every HQ is closed. Tons of layoffs and no jobs. lost mine, but through a small miracle recently started a new one. Onboarding remotely.
Everything is harder to do, and there are supply chain issues.
Generally I ban myself from Target. Go in for a shower curtain, walk out having spent 150$.

Sorry to hear you lost your job, I am so glad you found a new one.
Good luck to you. You are a sharp cookie, you will do well.

Thank you! 2020 was a rollercoaster for everyone. I am so very relieved.

(46,880 posts)I wonder what it will look like after the pandemic.....
In fact what will any of the stores look like?
Yes I know, so many people lost their jobs, or took pay cuts.
I am so happy you found something, good for you.
That is a huge huge weight off your shoulders.

(1,200 posts)For apparel. The pandemic may have changed it irrevocably. Unknown for now. Home decor, because people have focused on the home --doing ok, and that could continue.
We all tried for some oasis inside the home, and probably will keep tinkering with that. Some of the trending hobbies and undertakings @ home have been wonderful to see!

(46,880 posts)After a year living in sweats and pajamas, who wants to go back to real clothes?
Yes, people are very interested in their home decor, surroundings, remodeling.
Been a fun time to see what people are doing.

(1,200 posts)Here is a great article, long, but interesting. On how the industry was already in an untenable situation, before Covid.

(23,970 posts)I actually kind of like the blue one.
And as long as they sell, Target won't care who is buying them.
leighbythesea2
(1,200 posts)With head scarf is a favorite.
& yes, they could be selling more. But someone is also getting yelled at as we speak. Probably. They need to fully embrace it now. Merchandise rakes or shovels around them!

(16,932 posts)Any girls in the cast made and wore dresses like this. My sister made my dress for me, from a Butterick pattern. I wish I still had it.
While I looked at the pictures, I imagined cruz, mcconnell, hawley, rubio, brooks, graham and lee attending the impeachment trial wearing them. Because those men are ridiculous anyway.
leighbythesea2
(1,200 posts)Thank you, this may help me. Mcconnell looks like American Gothic painting already. Just the pitchfork would be held by a crowd behind him. What a week.
Ah the Buttrick patterns. I made my share too. And did some costuming, which is a total labor of love.

(5,830 posts)Years and years ago I loved their Cherokee clothing line. And those items were well made and lasted for years.
In the past decade or more, Target's women's clothes became nothing more than flimsy wear-it-once trash, much of it in hideous colors.
The quality has gotten a little better the past year or two, but the colors and styles don't interest me at all. Whoever designs the plus-size Ava and Viv clothes is either clueless or deliberately wants to make larger women look awful. Corduroy pants, white pants and pleated skirts all make you look much heavier. So does plaid. But they love pushing these items.
I'd far rather go to Ross or Burlington, or buy online.
leighbythesea2
(1,200 posts)A common event to have quality diminish, unfortunately. Its usually fabric first, then the make. Part of that starts with a store like them carrying a brand (like Cherokee) that's decent quality. Then slowly doing less of that and more private label or in-house labels.
It comes from the profit margins that can be had by designing a label in house. So they up the number of those. Then over time, to increase profits, fabrics get re-sourced in those programs.
Theres that term about being a sum zero game? It's kind of that. Public companies, for shareholders and quarterly goals, keep trying to find savings. The problem is as you say, customers see, feel and react to quality changes. Weirdly, everyone has tried this strategy, even brands like Lands End. Then they have to reverse course.
But Target pricing?, no reversing. As for the styling, I have to guess that is a strategy of offer "fashion" at all sizes, even if it doesn't translate. Not everything works in petite, plus, tall, etc.

(27,093 posts)all of the girls at my school started wearing these dresses.
A few even had bonnets!
Holly Hobbie was also big.
I'm kind of nostalgic about them, and I'd get one if I was a bit thinner...
