The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsTook my first tumble of the Winter season, today.
Although I won't horrify anyone by posting a photo, I'm probably going to have a significant bruise on my bum. I encountered an unexpected, snow covered and very slick patch of ice while clearing the driveway and fell HARD. Fortunately, I didn't twist any major limbs and avoided cracking my skull on the concrete. For that I am thankful. I never even let go of the snow blower. Apparently I'm still a pretty sturdy old dame.
I finished the job, despite the nerve pain being really bad. Apparently my ass isn't sufficiently padded to cushion the sciatic nerve. Who knew??? It feels much better now but I anticipate being very sore, later. Might be a good idea to take a hot soak in an Epsom Salts bath.
Ok, I'm done whining. And, BTW, 𝙄 𝙃𝘼𝙏𝙀 𝙒𝙄𝙉𝙏𝙀𝙍!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(29,692 posts)The ice is so thick that it was hard to get a good grip.

(115,605 posts)I live in Minneapolis, and although most people are pretty good about clearing the sidewalks in front of their homes, there are still a lot of icy spots. I walk a couple of miles every day in my neighborhood no matter the weather, and my ice cleats have saved my old butt more than once; I have not fallen or even come close to it.

(26,250 posts)I couldn't get my car up the drive and into the garage, earlier, so I figured since it's 28 and sunny, it might be the prime time to clear off the snow. That was the one and only place with a slick of ice, like that and, of course I 'found' it.

My tailbone is bruised too. Didnt work Monday because of it. I drank too much before/while/ and after the Chiefs lost ...and uh. Fell. 🙄🙄

(86,332 posts)Arnica salve, rub it on the bruise and it will reabsorb in a couple days.

(26,250 posts)I'm about to climb into that hot bath. I have lavender scented salts so I might be a while.....
occasional icing is helpful for really dark bruises.
Enjoy your bath. I only have a shower. I live near hot springs and rely on them but they are closed due to covid.

(26,250 posts)I didn't think it would be a good idea to drive.
I thought I had stopped the bleeding before I left the house. I was wrong. By the time I started the walk home, blood was streaming down the side of my head. I don't think the wound was that big (I was bonked by a corner of the control)but head wounds do bleed a lot. Once it stopped bleeding, I pretty much forgot about it.
The only bones I've ever broken are toes, and that's because I'm a klutz who likes to walk around barefoot.

(20,867 posts)I'm still in pain and can't type much.
That's why I haven't been around much.
Rest as much as you can!
Its difficult but that is when you heal, when you are asleep and resting.
If you aren't a lot better soon go see a doctor!
Take care!!
