Dollars to doughnuts

Is this phrase now hopelessly outdated, considering that the cost of a doughnut now meets or exceeds a dollar practically everywhere? I cannot rest until this question has been addressed to my satisfaction.

But yeah I sure get your point. How crazy not to pass $15 minimum wage. Anyone in that earning category would surely spend every dime on essentials / near essentials and boost the economy unlike the trickle down garbage.
