It's cold!
Cold! Cold! Cold!
I know it's not as cold (22 tonight, 12 tomorrow night with highs not topping 30) as it is in other places but this is Louisiana and it's not supposed to be this cold.
All done.
Thank you.

(90,758 posts)Hugs help to keep warm.
I've been hugging dogs and cats all day. Dogs enjoyed it but the cats were not amused.

(113,025 posts)not like it if I am out of his sight.

They do it for me, I'm sure. Probably think I'm too needy.

(13,536 posts)exercise today, I can still feel it in my calves. There was about 3 1/2 inches on the ground. I intentionally tromped through a small park and athletic field for more exercise. We have about 3-6 more inches on the way. I'll be making it a little shorter probably for a few days.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)Their walks tonight and tomorrow will be shorter ones.
11 during the day - damn.

(53,918 posts)Right now, it is 4 Degrees! It is so cold in the garage, I had chicken in the fridge thawing for four days...it is STILL frozen! Sodas on the shelf are COLDER than the ones in the fridge and the ones IN the fridge, as of today are starting to form ice in them...while in the fridge! I have never seen that happen. I brought in my extra carton of eggs.
The dogs are mad at us because we allowed the ground to get cold, hard and filled it with this nasty, white stuff. They are not amused!
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)I told them I was miserable too but they didn't care.
4? I'm sorry!
Hopefully your drinks won't pop and spew. Put a towel or blanket on them maybe? I would hate to clean up the mess is all.
Stay warm as best you can!
MuseRider
(34,095 posts)you left this forsaken place. -11 real temp with -35 wind chill. Going to close up the net for now, dress up and go take my final run in the barns and buckle everyone in for the night. It is just no fun at all here.
I can imagine it feels just as bad to you all where you are even though it is not as extreme in temps it is still unusual. Stay warm and take care.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)it snowed so much it reached my upper thighs. That was no fun at all.
Hope one and all settle in for a warm(er) night!

(113,025 posts)But. . .DAMN!!! It is COLD!!!!
I understand it is supposed to snow in Houston tonight. I was there once when it snowed. Amused the hell out of my friends and me.

(90,758 posts)I can drive in the snow and ice, though I won't go out on ice unless it is an emergency.
Still, I'd rather not do either.
We kept our chains from living in snowy locales, good thing.

(11,086 posts)I'm in SW Arkansas.
Predicted low tonight 12.
Monday High/Low: 21/4
Tuesday High/Low: 27/18
Wednesday High/Low: 26/21
It is predicted to finally get over freezing on Thursday
High/Low: 33/9 - with snow.
I have seen cold weather but I've never seen it this cold this long.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)It usually isn't this cold this many days in a row. I'm already thinking about hitting the covers.

(11,086 posts)It looks like we'll be alright here if we can survive until the weekend. Not quite as a balmy as you but at least bearable.
I'm reminded of the lyrics of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." Does anyone know where the love of God goes?
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)Am from Georgia though.

(9,092 posts)Local weather guy was saying that the wind chill could get to -20 tonight.
I'm trying to keep the three, poor feral kitties that we feed alive. I just can't get them to come inside though.
I tried luring them with tuna, warm broth, etc. They're so cold, but they just can't overcome their fear.
It's pretty distressing. I don't see how they're going to survive tonight and the next night.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)Can you get a box, fill it with hay (whatever warm things you have now), not too tight so the kittens can move about inside, seal the box except for an opening they can get into?
They might go inside that to keep warm. They will snuggle in the hay together and that will help them keep warm.
I wish you and them well.

(9,092 posts)Weve got a couple of shelters they can get into.
I just hope they use them.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)One has cats, a mom and a kitten, and not sure about the other. I walked the yard after walking the dogs to check on them. Brought more food and water just in case.
We have a hay bin between two storage sheds that attracts all kinds of wildlife looking to keep warm and snug. That's the only reason we keep it filled with clean hay.
Now I'm wide awake. Dammit.
lol

(90,758 posts)We're staying in today except for dog walks and food patrol. 19 with a wind chill of 4. Snow covered ground and roads.
I'm getting sleepy just thinking about it.

We finally lost power with if the last hour. Utility company says theyll restore it on the 16th. Supposed to be above freezing by the morning.
Good times.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)I hate losing power. Spent a few weeks without during hurricane season. Whole town.
High today will be 30.
Going to be a quiet day with any luck.
LudwigPastorius
(9,092 posts)I hope you have a fireplace, or something to keep you warm!
MissB
(15,803 posts)Wood burning insert. So our living room is toasty.

(9,092 posts)I'm trying to come up with a plan if we get hit with a blackout in the middle of the night.
Fireplace, but nothing to burn. It's my fault, I moved in here four years ago and never thought it would be needed.
So far, I've come up with: get in the car and get somewhere warm!

(31,371 posts)my niece and her family--with two toddler age boys--live just outside Dallas. They lost power at 3 am. Single digits there. She and her husband grew up in Iowa, so they know how cold it can get. But Texas? Crazy.
Stay warm!

(130,712 posts)My niece and nephew moved to Austin, also grew up in Iowa!

(31,371 posts)Temp has stayed above freezing, but it may dip into 20's at night later in the week. We haven't had any single digit temps this winter.

(130,712 posts)Melted now, hi later today 54 (after some rain,) then cools down.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)You OK?
We've kept power, so far. Colder tonight, 12, with wind chill 0.
Tomorrow will be a little better.

(31,371 posts)My niece said around midnight that in 21 hours they'd had power briefly, once for about an hour and once for about 10 minutes. She was not looking forward to all night without power with temp still in single digits.
Solly Mack
(90,758 posts)that got it worse.
