Freezing at 12:34 AM (No Oreos)

I'm so cold. I'm freezing. My toes are icicles. I can't get warm.

Not gonna lie this is not good. Despite having power right now, our heater is old and isn't performing well right now. I'm exhausted and cold. I'm wrapped up in three blankets and it's not doing any good.

I want to sleep but I feel like if I go to sleep. I wouldn't wake up again. Like I know that sounds dramatic but it's truly scaring me and my anxiety is at an all time high.

But can you load up on layers of clothing? Multiple socks, underwear, pants, shirts, head coverings.

I'm sorry you are suffering through this nightmare.

5. Not crazy at all - multiple loose layers of clothes will work better than three blankets

Can you cook food or boil water? Maybe doing a task will keep your mind better occupied.

This will be over soon.

Sending you warm thoughts.

Hi. I’m so sorry to hear what your going through. We were fortunate to get out of the state for the rest of the week to avoid the power crisis.

There are some resources. Call 877-541-7905 or 211 to find your closest warming shelter in TX. And if all else fails, 911.

Please stay safe.

4. are you able to get up and move around?

seriously - run in place or do some squats or anything that gets you moving around. swing your arms and move your feet. you will feel warmer, then bundle up in whatever clothes and blankets you can find. this is an old camping trick - never get into bed cold, walk around and warm up first.

I’ve only been that cold once and it was awful. Do you have pets or humans in the house you can cuddle with? There are some good tips on this list: https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-get-warm-when-you-are-freezing-2018-1

The snow sounds like styrofoam being crushed when you walk on it.

Get multiple layers of socks on your feet, ASAP. If ur feet feel cold, the rest of you feels cold.

8. Not sure where you are located

But a tip i picked up from tundra based persons.. turn on the humidifier. Or boil some water on the stove with a little cinnamon.

Especially if you arent used to extreme cold, it may not be obvious, but the cold freezes moisture right out of the air.. and then that dry air sucks moisture off your skin, making you feel cooler. There are times you can get the actual temp up to 80 with a heater and still feel cold somehow.

If its not helpful, feel free to ignore. best wishes with getting warm.

10. Be sure not to drink anything cold, if that is possible (but stay hydrated!).

If you can warm your water and put it into a thermos, sip that. A cold drink will take heat from your body! If you have a hot water bottle (you know, the old rubber things?) fill it with hot water and wrap it in a towel, then put it between yourself and the blankets.

Bless you!

please layer up. 2 pairs of warm socks, 2 pairs of sweats with long underwear, 3 layers of tops, then wrap up in the blankies. get up and walk around if you can't sleep, to generate heat. stay hydrated.

and update us on how you are!

oh yeah, and cover your head. much heat is lost through the head.

Warm clothes, warm blankets.

I’m from Montana originally so as soon as I was old enough to be able to buy my own stuff, I bought wool blankets and down comforters and wool long underwear and socks. Just in case. I’ve always been afraid of the cold and of power going out.

I hope you will be okay. I wish so much I could instantly transport my warm blankets to you.

Hang in there!

13. P.S. everyone has given such great ideas, another idea I thought of is one my grandparents used

To do. They would warm up those heavy irons on top of the stove, wrap them in towels and put them in the beds as bed warmers. Of course if you do something like that you have to be super careful of not starting a fire or burning yourself.

I slept through the night after I posted this. I'm going to trek out to get some firewood though from the local convenience store so we can warm up.

So much great advice I will be using all day and tonight again to stay warm. I love y'all
