Lonely walrus visiting Denmark

The young walrus is laying tired by a pier at the northern coast of Denmark. It has only happened 10 times in 100 years that a walrus has found its way to a Danish coast. A wildlife consultant estimates that the young walrus is weighing between 300 and 500 kg, and is probably just very tired after a long swim. It has a number of minor injuries, such as tears and wounds, which is perfectly normal for him.

Most walruses are usually found in the Arctic Ocean north of Greenland. The tired walrus can easily find food in Danish waters, as it usually eats mussels and shellfish. The biggest challenge for the walrus is probably that he misses his mates. A walrus is a social animal that thrives best in flocks.

He is not tagged, but they can swim long distances. Since he came all this way, he might also be able to find his way home far North.
