The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsA cop came by last night just as we were finishing up our fireworks.
We greeted him politely and thanked him for being out keeping things safe. I had my cane and two of my disabled neighbors in wheel chairs were there. Our house is sort of an oasis. The cop liked the appreciation. Patrolling on holidays like that has got to be a horrible shift. It's not something I would want to do. I'd have offered him a beer, but he was on duty.

(4,281 posts)A cop here would have confiscated the fireworks and given us a ticket.

(47,675 posts)He said he'd already spoken to that group. They don't tend to arrest people on the 4th because it would clog up the whole damn station with drunks.

(13,832 posts)As a kid back in the sixties we used to shoot off aerial bombs. They were basically an M-80 mortar. You don't see many of those anymore. The best part was my neighbor was a cop and supervised the fireworks hour for the neighborhood. Nothing like growing up in the sixties when most of our dads were WWII vets !

We only have State Police here and they were to busy to patrol the "sticks" looking for fireworks.

(47,675 posts)In PA, almost every township has its own force. They only rely on the state police for backup.
