The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm curious. How many 15-20 year DUers have ever changed their name? (me, no)
If so, have you changed it more than once? Please list your prior name.

haven't ever changed mine. I do know a number of people who changed on their own for various reasons but lost their post counts.

(113,961 posts)although it is possible a few DUers might have gotten "special dispensation" for one reason or another.

(9,390 posts)More like witness protection. When I joined on the summer of 2001 my user name was first name last initial. After a couple years and saying some shitty things ( deservedly so in my opinion) about the Bush Administration, I decided to stop posting under my real name and make it a little more difficult to ID.

(12,047 posts)First Speaker
(4,858 posts)...I liked it because it was the name of an early SF/Fantasy publishing house, named for good old Arkham, Massachusetts, courtesy of H. P. Lovecraft. Then I learned that it had some sort of connection to Batman...
Sorry, but I'm a 100% Marvel fan. (Or was. Marvel today sucks.) So I changed it to First Speaker, from Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. If I had given it a little thought, I would have made it Preem Palver, the actual name of Asimov's FS. There have been other Foundation-derived names here at DU...I recall a Salvor Hardin, though I haven't seen him around lately. If you don't know the Trilogy, First Speaker might seem a little arrogant. ("Why should *he* think he can speak first?" ) But I'm not going to change at this point.
