The low waist jean with essentially wrong underwear.
Just had to witness it, and try to design around it. Thankfully not wear it.

(34,136 posts)I always had big biceps for a woman and off the rack women's suits and blouses didn't fit right. But when shoulder pads were popular I could buy suit jackets or blouses with shoulder pads, take them out and they would fit much better - still not quite right, but better. My only other choices were to make my own clothes, hire a tailor to make my clothes, or the one I went for, wear tee shirts all the time, or at least knit clothes that would give me enough give for my big arms.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,683 posts)I usually would take them out but then the garment wouldn't hang quite right. I hated the '80s in a lot of ways, and that was one of them.
The overall look was weird. Hair was big, shoulders were huge, and there were leggings. A woman I worked with had the whole look - she was pretty overweight but she had tiny feet, so with the big hair and the shoulder pads and the leggings and the little feet in high heels she looked very top-heavy.

(42,553 posts)I don't get this one either. And the whole high-water pants thing in general. Is this still a thing? It's kind of hard to tell with Covid and all. There are just fewer people about so I don't know if guys are still dressing like this.

(4,889 posts)What's wrong with bellbottoms? I wore them in high school in the 70s. I liked the 70s after the war. We went to concerts every few weeks. Foghat, Boston, Rush, REO, ZZ Top. TV sucked, but oh well. Smoked a lot of reefer.

I recall being at a wedding when I was about 12 and all the guys were dressed like this. Even then I recall thinking - this is a really bad look.

(23,975 posts)...the Air Force, and a fellow pilot showed up in a lime green, polyester double knit leisure/jumpsuit that was a little on the snug side, even on someone as slender as this man.
His wife was wearing panty hose under her shorts.
An out-spoken friend commented quietly to me, Well, you can tell hes circumcised. She was right - he was, and you could tell.
Im very glad the pants-hanging-off-the-ass look is over. Underwear is called underwear for a reason.
