When he is ready to hear it, they could also tell him how the taxes are used.

Now I the only time I look at my gross income is when I do my taxes. For most the year I couldn't tell you what it is.

He was never surprised and he knew that because he was under 18, he still had a chance of getting some back.

It was still a nice setup, but easily avoided with real world life lessons.

I'm only sorry someone hadn't told him before this that he had to pay taxes. At least his family is loving and kind about this.

Some years back I changed jobs (long story, the details aren't important) and took a huge cut in pay. I was honestly impressed at how much lower my taxes were, even though of course I was taking home a lot less money.

He'll get it in the form of medical care, or Social Security, or in some other form. I'm glad they took that money out of my pay all those years; it's why I'm getting a pretty good income now in my retirement years.

She opened up the envelope and said "What happened to my check?" I said "We told you about taxes." She said "Why did they take so much???"
