He was a Gunny sgt. and told me about training his squad on patrols. He'd pick up a pine cone, throw it in the trail, and yell "Grenade!" His squad would then all try to jump on the pine cone... Then they would continue along until he yelled "Sniper!" They would all rush up and surround him. He had a good sense of self-preservation.
