Cloris Leachman passed away 1/27/2021. She was the last of the 3 apartment friends on the MTM Show.

These 3 were the ones that got together in Mary's apartment to discuss the day's events, their love lives and roll their eyes at each other.

The Mary Tyler Show 1970 - 1977

Mary Tyler Moore (Mary Richards) 2017 at 81
Valerie Harper (Rhoda Morgenstern ) 2019 at 80
Cloris Leachman (Phyllis Lindstrom) 2021 at 94

As a young woman just starting out in my career and living in my first apartment, I thoroughly enjoyed their antics and the situations they got into.

Amazingly Betty White 99 (Sue Ann Nivens), Ed Asner 91 (Lou Grant), and Gavin Macleod 90 (Murray Slaughter) are still with us today.

The other 2 prominent actors on the show who have already passed are:
Ted Knight (Ted Baxter) 1986 at 62
Georgia Engels (Georgette Baxter) 2019 at 71

I loved all the actors and looked forward each week to watching the show. Was my all time favorite show!

I was just a kid at the time, but boy did they leave an impression on me!

“Rhoda: [about her mother] I think she's holding a grudge because I didn't go into the profession she wanted.

Mary: What's that?

Rhoda: A housewife.”

I loved the scenes with Ed Asner and MTM. He was hilarious and she was the perfect straight (wo)man.

Phyllis' daughter Bess, played by Lisa Gerritson:

She wasn't on much but she "lived" there.

She really wasn't a major player on the MTM show, only 10 appearances, but had 24 on "Phyllis.

But thanks for bringing it up as I didn't realize she was a Miss America contestant.

who said Marry was who you wanted to be, Rhoda was who you were, and Phyllis was who you were afraid you’d become.

RIP magnificent Cloris.

I saw her on the Mike Douglas show once and a woman came in wearing a giant fur coat and she talked about how she would never wear a fur coat. Great compassion.
