especially on tv zoom interviews. While I get it that it is the current fad, it makes them look like they are wearing ski goggles or a scuba mask. On zoom, the disproportionate size of the glasses gives off tremendous glare and makes their face disappear. Not sure if more women are wearing them than men, but it seems that I've noticed it more among the women being interviewed.
Ok, that is my very superficial pet peeve for the morning. Yours?
(And yeah, I can appreciate the "stay off my grass" comparisons, though I'm no Mr. (or Ms.) Wilson) LOL

(28,493 posts)I thought the fad a few years ago for really tiny ones was dumb.

(34,189 posts)Because often when I go in for new glasses their excuse for not having what I want is that they are "out of style."
For instance, for my needlework glasses I like half frames, but I have to have wire frames with nose pads (the bridge of my nose is very low and I have to have the pads to hold the glasses away from my eye lashes). A few years ago when I needed new needlework glasses they didn't have a single half frame in stock. They tried to sell me whole frame glasses with bifocal lenses - I don't like that since I don't need correction at a distance and I use half frame magnifying lenses so I can see my needlework and look over the top at the TV or outside.
Eventually I gave up and brought in an old pair for new lenses. The optician didn't like this - he wanted to sell me new frames. But he didn't/wouldn't provide what I wanted so screw him.
Same for my driving glasses - they didn't have aviator style for women. No problem for me, I have a big head and the men's frames actually fit better. But the stupid salesman kept saying they weren't "feminine enough." Well, I generally wear jeans and tee shirts, what do I need with "feminine" accessories. I need glasses that fit the way I like them.

Not a fan of the big glasses, either.

(113,868 posts)Maybe what I'm calling large, oversized glasses and what you are thinking of, are not quite the same or perhaps there is someone with just the face (very large face) for them.
Hopefully, you'll post an image.

But once the glasses cover the eyebrows, this could be a trifle excessive.

(26,835 posts)My sis used to work right near the East River (NYC) 1 block away.
It was a quite windy day. She was crossing a big avenue when W0000sh off went her big eyeglasses up the street.
Guess who gets a call - I was either her between temp work, or doing graphic design in my home studio room.
"Can you go to my house and get my second pair of glasses". Yeah, ok.
After I got them to her, I was walking back to the subway. Sky was getting that slightly green look that I think I heard can indicate potential tornado weather (yikes).
Luckily no tornadoes! I got back home without losing my big glasses. 👍

(23,693 posts)For one thing my eyebrows showed up through the lenses so it looked like I had 2 pair.
I have a small frame so they overpowered my face
They were heavy, because the frame materials were heavier as well as the lenses
They were not as bad for sunglasses, especially if the lenses were really dark; more of the sun's glare was blocked.
My sister in law also has a very small bone structure in her face, as well as very deeply set small eyes. Her tinted butterfly shaped frames hid just about everything; they came down to her cheekbones at the bottom "Are you in there?"
I was very glad when frames started getting smaller. My last pair were a bit too small; I think they were the smallest I could get that will accomodate no line bifocals. I did not like them as much as I thought I would.
Now I can wear readers since my cataracts are fixed.
