I'm really glad the story did not end with the cliched married w/ kids, as if that's the only thing that can make a woman fulfilled

At least I THINK it was the first one. Anyway, he got to meet the whole cast. As I recall, he had nothing but praise for Mr. Doohan.

I'm not a big fan of science fiction or 'fantasy' stuff. My brother still is a total Star Trek (and Star Wars) fan. He worked at the 20th Century Fox film studio during the making of some of the later Star Wars films. I went to a Golden Globes screening of one of them. Too much CGI for my taste. Everybody around me was so geeked and into the film. I was bored to tears.

I do like hearing about "stars" who care enough about their fans to reach out. Rare enough in this day, I think.

Following his death, James Doohan was cremated and some of his ashes were smuggled aboard the International Space Station. A fitting resting place for one of the most famous "space engineers."
