(3,557 posts)After years of dealing with my ex-wifes dogs, Im done with them. I know Im going to get flamed for this, but Im not at all a fan of dogs. For the 15 years I knew my ex, I did all of the work and got none of the enjoyment.
Dont get me wrong, I dont hate dogs, Im just not crazy in love with them like many people are. I can tolerate them, but thats it.
Actually, my kids and I arent even sure my ex (their mom) likes dogs either - and she always insists on owning two of them at all times. Now that my ex is living by herself and she has to do the work, she doesnt seem quite as enthused about them as she used to be. One of her dogs is a really sweet dog (a pit bull mix) and is great with my kids, but he has a tendency to bite various men. My ex almost got sued as a result and she was booted out of the previous house she was renting.
So what did she do? She moved and decided to give away the other dog, a beagle that snores and always acts scared of her that she decided she never liked.
I dont get it (or my ex)

I dont know. Could be.

(3,557 posts)Fortunately, she is seeing mental health professionals and she does take some self-care steps to help mitigate symptoms. She always did yoga daily, exercises, and eats mostly healthy.
So much of the way she treated me when we were married fits. Ive always been as patient and understanding of her as I could, but after years of being treated like crap I gave up trying to deal with her. After 13 years and 10 months of marriage, she left me to pursue a relationship with a guy she had a crush on in middle school. Two months later, we divorced, sold our house, moved from New York to Ohio, and uprooted the lives of our children. Within 5-7 months of my ex telling me she wanted a divorce and that she was in love with this other guy, her relationship with this new guy ended spectacularly and now she regrets ever leaving me.
Selfishly, I couldnt be happier now. My kids also tell me that they are happier with us living separately. I live a 10 minute walk away from my kids and I get along well enough with my ex that child custody is not an issue. We celebrate holidays together and occasionally go out as a family a few times a year. I live just around the corner from my exs parents and I see them all the time.
Not that youre interested in hearing my rant about life, but thanks for just mentioning that.

(32,017 posts)You, your children, and those animals have all been traumatized. I know. Ive been there. Mercifully, it looks like we both escaped.
Dead-pan, shark-like eyes. Will stare at you, silently, in a show of aggression. Able to turn emotions on and off, like a switch, to get what they want out of others. Manipulative. Highly, constantly deceitful. Given to sexual perversion. Sadistic.
Sound familiar? If so, let it out. Im listening.

P.S. Mental health professionals can not help her. Personality disorders are hard-wired. Theyre incurable and untreatable (although a lot of mental health professionals make a lot of money pretending that these disorders can be effectively treated). They cant. Most importantly, the condition is progressive. They actually get WORSE over time. Escape is the only reasonable option when you discover that you are in a relationship with a Cluster B-disordered person.

(25,919 posts)of barking, or because they're lonely, then take them inside. Trust me, your neighbors do not enjoy listening to your dogs bark for hours on end.
There are times when I understand why people put out poison for the neighbors dogs. No, I wouldn't do that, but I understand.

(6,631 posts)But why did it scale the fence to get into the yard in the first place? Something might have attracted it - maybe the bushes had good-smelling fruit or berries on them. Like they say, "a Bear can smell the perfume your Grandmother wore at her wedding". Anyway, I'm glad there were no injuries but TBH, I'd call animal control and make a report. Things miight not end as nicely next time.

(28,509 posts)I've had a couple Dog vs. Bear encounters. They all ended up bloodless with the Bear scooting away like this one even though my dogs were so much smaller than the bears. Very interesting animal dynamics!
