(11,562 posts)My ex adopted a cat somehow, and he was a little haywire, and selectively aggressive. He VERY MUCH adhered to the protocol of "Rub my belly twice. The third stroke is cause for an all out attack."
He is now quite affectionate and pretty reliable. Quite a transformation.

(28,117 posts)I was thinking, "who did this to this cat?"
Never leave a candle on a shelf/table that your cat can get on.
We had an open kitchen/living room and there was a countertop extension that could be used as an eat in bar, but we didn't. It was mostly a catch all. I had a candle burning there one evening, and the cat was also sitting on the counter. His tail was doing that slow swing back and forth that they do, when he flicked it into the flame. The tip of his tail caught on fire. I jumped up, but before I could reach him, he flicked it the other way and put it out himself. He just sat there, non-plussed, mystified as to why I was so concerned. He didn't even injure himself. The skin was not burned, just the hair. By the way, burnt cat hair smells really bad. There are not enough candles in an entire Yankee Candle Co. store to get that smell out of your house. We had to open the windows, and it was like 30 degrees outside.
Save yourself, put the candle on a different shelf.
