At long last. The vaccination program is finally opening up to the general public.

Up to now, the program has been focused on health workers, front line essential workers and residents in seniors facilities. And the opening of the "general population" phase isn't so general - 90+ for the time being, with ages being decremented 5 years at a time, as appropriate to the time line/completion rate.

It sounds like 90+ should blow by in a day or so, but we have a ton of seniors here. Victoria has been know as "The home of the newlywed and nearly dead." and "The place where elderly people move to live with their grandparents." Those quips aren't that facetious.

It's going to take a while to get down to my age bracket, which is disappointing in that way....but, given my druthers, I'd choose being so much younger that my date would be months longer than that.

So, here's hoping, and waiting.

It's been open to 65+ for a couple of weeks as well as health care and other frontline workers, plus nursing home residents. More than half of all 65+ have received at least one vaccination, and when 70% is reached it will be open to others. Every state does it differently.

Our vaccine rollout has been severely hampered by having no vaccine to roll out. Not surprisingly, nor indefensibly, "have" countries want to take care of their citizens first, or at least have the end firmly in sight. The taps have been opened a little more over recent weeks, but I suspect the big players could fill our entire requirement in a couple of weeks, were that their focus.

Not having a big pharma industry has definitely hurt us, and while no one has breathed a word of this, I would not be at all surprised if Canada was on Big Pharma's shit list over pricing, generics, etc.

I got a WELL past patent date medication the other day, and with the generic cost being lowered still further with a 70% govt. subsidy, my 3-month supply was $7.94. Hard to beat that.

but it's been stuck at 65 for a while now, and even though we have some health issues, we do not have any of the conditions (thankfully, not ignoring that point) that would qualify us to go early. So far our governor hasn't even said when the next age group will be eligible nor what the age range will even be.

There was a line for the Covid vaccine. I went to another store and came back to get something and there was no line anymore. One of the workers asked me if I wanted the vaccine since they had left overs. I was shocked but declined as it was the two part one and wouldn’t be available to go back in two weeks because I would be out of town.

Our state is doing great.....even with a former Democratic/Turned Republican Trump supporting Governor named Jim Justice. Hmmmmm.......I am not a fan but as far as COVID goes? Yep - - he’s rocking it because he has let all the experts take charge. I have to applaud him on that level. He’s a likable “character” , and he talks West Virginian....but our mask mandate is still in place, and he said that other Governors who are lifting theirs are being “MACHO” - - gotta love that!!!
