(61,857 posts)For years my wife and I sent my parents Christmas cards pretending we were random couples they never met (or existed), but wrote notes as if they were familiar friends.
Runner up... we had a local real estate agent who, once she sold a house, put up a sign saying "Phyllis did it again". My mom's name is Phyllis, so we "borrowed" a sign and wrapped it up and gave it to her for Christmas on one of their visits.

(64,688 posts)we got her a car. She was parked in the driveway. I got home from work and pulled sort of behind her.
When I went inside she asked if she could have some money for gas. I gave her a $20. Then I said- 'hey my car is behind yours, why don't you just take mine?' and I flipped her my keys.
She rushed out, hopped in my car and took off.
When she came home she banged her way in the house, looks straight at me and says 'you did that on purpose, didn't you???'

(33,150 posts)my brother had a failed high school art project of a bust, something he made up that looked like a cross between the idol in "Raiders of the Lost Arc" and a statue from Eastern Island. There was an air bubble in the clay and part of the bust blew apart in the kiln.
A co-worker of my father had bought a house under construction across the street from us. We buried the bust in the construction site hoping the co-worker or construction crew would dig it up by "accident" and think they discovered an ancient artifact.
My dad laughed about it for years. As far as I know the thing is still buried somewhere in the yard.
