Anybody getting spam calls from Jehovah's Witness?

Just got one, and truthfully, it didn''t dawn on me what the nice elderly lady was calling about. I thought maybe my MILs church was calling to let me know about their streaming services and events for Easter. It didn't dawn on me until she said to go check out their website JW.org.

Guess during COVID they don't go door to door anymore, and early on in the quarantine, they figured calls were cheaper than sending handwritten notes and copies of their tracts to everybody (My friend got one of those).

1. No calls. But,

I got a hand written letter from a JW last weekend. It was several paragraphs and included a copy of their little newsletter. Creepy AF if you ask me.

2. It seemed like a harmless and possibly nice gesture.

It is if they keep following it with more of them that it will get creepy.

4. The lady seemed nice. If I hadn't been waiting for a mtg to start, I would have chatted awhile.

It's just with past experience, once you start a back/forth conversation with them, it's really difficult to end it graciously.

11. I always start with a gushing apology

about how sorry I am that I would have to end our chat as I have an important call I must make.

Kinda made me chuckle. Mine didn't include the newsletter though. Maybe they figured it wasn't worth the extra postage. Bummer... the more revenue to the USPS, the better. 👍

3. Ew. I've just stopped answering calls from numbers I don't recognize. If it's important, they'll

leave a message. I've noticed that the number of spam calls has increased since I turned 65 which is pretty despicable. I suppose they think they can get one over on an old lady. Eff that, lol.

5. I would do that, but one spam call (identified as spam on caller ID)

was my appointment reminder from the hospital for my mammogram. I told them when I went in that it displayed as "spam" and they were lucky I picked up. The appt. coordinator said that they've had problems since contracting with a company to place the reminder calls. Apparently that calling service is frequently tagged as 'spam'.

12. I've had that happen to me a couple times

It seems like it happens when they are using a cell phone and it registers from some foreign country. Strange, but it happened with a certain Dr’s office twice. Now I know to check messages if I’m expecting a call. My phone blocks it from ringing but allows them to leave a message. (Under blocked messages)

14. Most callers hang up when I answer

"detective cracker, what have you got?" Plus fewer junk calls. My friends figure it out.

6. I completely forgot that I DID gat a spam call from them.

I have no idea why I answered it, since I don't answer calls from numbers/people I don't know. Mentioning the web site is what reminded me.

7. Yes, that is why I screen all calls

8. I only answer phone calls if I recognize the numbers. All other calls go to voice messaging

and if they don't leave a message I know it's a spam call. Online I depend on my behavior
of sending unwanted email to my spam folder (if my service doesn't send them there first) then deleting everything in spam, which I do several times a day. We can manage these things and we can't be too careful!

10. no calls from them but "amazon." social security with fraud warning,

california franchise tax board . etc . and those horrible pesky hit and run calls . 2 rings and they hang up. a pilot call to see if there is a active open line .

13. I got a mailing a couple weeks ago. It's much easier than closing the door on a nice lady.

I’ve been listening to some of the videos on Lloyd Evan’s YouTube channel. The way that they handle sexual abuse is horrific. His videos are long, but informative.

15. I can't trust anyone on the subject of religion who feels the need to peddle theirs

door-to-door as if it was a vacuum cleaner or a set of encyclopedias.

And what's the whole "not celebrating holidays" thing all about? Jesus celebrated holidays. Do they think they're better than Jesus?

16. I got a nice

handwritten letter from someone I do not know, come to find out it was them. Nobody comes to my door because it is 1/4 mile from the road around a pond and we keep the gate shut. Yes, I do live gated. I have animals here and I do not like looking out my window and seeing a party of 7 or so people I do not know wandering by the front windows fishing in my pond or up feeding my horses cheetos. So....to go on, it was the perfect opportunity for them to write I guess. I was going to respond but why bother. Even disliking more than anything to be proselytized to at least I did not have to go to my door in my undies to scare them off.

17. We don't have a fenced yard, but going in/out of the house like a workerbee

with our dog (black german shepherd) leashed but laying in the sun has stopped them many a time.

The one time they made it to our front door, I opened it but had to hold the dog back and they backed off the porch.
