1down, 1 to go

Ft Bend county outside of Houston has their shit together. Never had to get out of the air conditioned comfort of my car. They sent me a text and an email last night with a link. Clicked the link, answered a few questions and they gave me my very own QR code.

Showed up this morning at 11 AM with my iced coffee and MSNBC on my Sirius XM. Car line was always moving. They checked my code and ID 3 times (no sneaky fuckers getting in here). Got my 💉 and they put a card with my shot time on my dash and kept me there for 5 minutes for any possible immediate reaction. Then they moved me down the observation line where someone would come by every 5 minutes to check on me. Paramedics and 2 ambulances were ready and waiting. Switched stations on my radio and the first song that played as I was driving out at 1 PM was (no kidding).

Feeling safer already!

While I do work for a no mask, no vaccines Trumpvangelical and his wife, I'm very lucky to 1) have a car a be able to drive and 2) live in Ft Bend county rather than Harris.

I have a friend who is in her 50s, but is obese, has an autoimmune disease and a chronic kidney disease, so she is classified as 1b. However, she can't drive because of a back problem, and taking the bus right now is just too risky, especially since our asshole governor lifted the mask order state wide. So she's just been holed up in her apartment and is so depressed.

One thing Harris County did do right was designate several low income zip codes as high risk and moved qualified residents (1a and 1b) to the head of the line. So that's how a friend got a first shot for her and her 88 year old mom. Unfortunately, my friend mentioned above doesn't live in one of those zip codes. So she waits ...

Telling about outreach. They literally are going out with the vaccine to people like your friend. Maybe she can do some research to see if they can come to her when it gets started in her area.

It's already started here. I saw it on the news, going on in Newark, NJ.

who would be happy to drive her. It's just a matter of availability right now. Harris County is YUGE, with over 4.7 million residents (3rd highest in the US). However, it's blue (as are most of the urban counties in Texas) and if the state health department is the one that's allocating vaccines, well, you tell me....

This is the state that tried to only allow a single drop off location for mail in ballots, regardless of the county's population. Harris County is only 33% non-Hispanic white. It went 60-70% for Greg Abbott's virtually unknown Democratic challenger, Lupe Valdez in 2018, and the same for Beto O'Rourke. It has a Democratic mayor as well as a Democratic county judge who functions as the county's CFO. If he can't get Harris County to vote red, well maybe he's hoping to kill off a few more Democrats than Republicans.

BTW, Houston's wonderful mayor, Sylvester Turner, is term limited, and I guarantee he's not finished with his political career. His second term will end in 2022, which is when Greg Abbott will run be up for re-election. Things that make you go hmmmmm. Of course, Fled Cruz will be up for re-election in 2024.

We watch her on TV all the time. Harris County gets quite a bit of coverage so we know a little about it up here in NJ. She seems like a good leader.

Interesting about Sylvester Turner.

Well, looks like you're going to need a lot of vaccine. As I type, ABC News is leading with the story of how there's no masking going on now in TX.

How pathetic that Abbott needed a foil from his pitiful performance during the freeze. Now he can maybe get another claim to infamy: petri dish for a Covid variant.

and he works nights. It's a matter of vaccine availability in Harris County right now. Her number should come up soon.

I was on the Fort Bend 1B list but got an appointment at Minute Maid park the day that they vaccinated 6000+ people. I got a notice from Fort Bend a week or two later asking me if I wanted an appointment.

I am glad that you had an easy time
