Fountain Pen? Good source/brand/price?

What is a good brand of fountain pen? (I like using them for graphic lettering).

Cost? Source? Quality?

Not looking for an expensive decorated one, one for lots of work.

I've bought a couple from the art stores and they're not that great a quality.

Thanks.

My favorite is a Montblanc Meisterstuck, which I inherited from my dad, but they are on the expensive side ($500+) . I also really like my Watermans. I have three different models of those and they are in a range from $75 to $200. I don't care for the Cross version - I find the nibs very stiff. I did recently pick up one from Amazon and it was really inexpensive - under $20. Brand was Beiluner. I've been very pleasantly surprised with it. Has a nice, flexible gilded nib and very comfortable in my hand. (Bought it because I loved the red color barrel!)

a waterman. The Lamy is a great functional pen. It will last for years. For a daily pen, you don't want an expensive gold nib (imho). But the lamy is well priced and will last.

Lamy is a German pen manufacturer, and makes a wide range of pens at an equally wide range of prices. There is the Safari, a plastic pen used mostly by children in Germany. It runs about $30. Be wary of offers on Amazon that are much lower. I can't say for sure, but there are a lot of cheap copies of this pen. Lamy makes other models that go up to $200. (at least in the USA, I think they have even more in Germany) I have found Lamy nibs to be reliable. They are meant to be replaceable, and Lamy sells extra nibs in sizes from Extra-Fine to 1.9mm stub.

Fountain Pen stores are the most reliable place to buy fountain pens. That way you are sure to get the pen you are looking for.
