Changed screen names

Recently, I've noticed that a number of frequent posters on DU have changed their screen names.

Does anyone have any idea why they've done this?

2. Because they could. In 2004 there was a name change amnesty as well to allow those who

had chosen names that were no longer "topical" or "relevant" to change.

I wish they would not do so, but... Many of the names are going from a simple easy-to-remember and unique screen name to something that has no context. I'll never remember them, but...

3. Oh, I think I get it

So the "amnesty" is that one's account is renamed so post count, etc. remain. If someone just started a new account, that information wouldn't be transferable, I guess.

10. Yes it's unfortunate. Names you've recognize after many years, now you don't know who they are

I understand some names were selected when a person joined DU to reflect the current political period, or some other reason that may now seem out of date. But that's what their DU associates know them by. If it's only been a couple of years that's one thing, but longer term members.....who are they now?

12. Nothing compelling about my username change

With the amnesty available, I decided to change my username to a smart-alecky version of the quality management system that reflects a large segment of my working life: ISO 9001.
