had chosen names that were no longer "topical" or "relevant" to change.

I wish they would not do so, but... Many of the names are going from a simple easy-to-remember and unique screen name to something that has no context. I'll never remember them, but...

So the "amnesty" is that one's account is renamed so post count, etc. remain. If someone just started a new account, that information wouldn't be transferable, I guess.

5. Yup... This is why it is enticing for some... They get to keep their "history" and post counts.

I understand some names were selected when a person joined DU to reflect the current political period, or some other reason that may now seem out of date. But that's what their DU associates know them by. If it's only been a couple of years that's one thing, but longer term members.....who are they now?

With the amnesty available, I decided to change my username to a smart-alecky version of the quality management system that reflects a large segment of my working life: ISO 9001.
