But still no explanation why the white van was on fire:

It appears to have been a construction site, maybe remodeling a house.

I wonder if there were propane tanks inside the van?

Story my Dad used to tell. Way back not long after Publix started (late 1940s to mid 1950s), they leased an old building in Lakeland, Florida for their second store (their first store was in Winter Haven). Dad was driving by that store and suddenly several men jumped off the roof. They were hot tarring the roof, which involved melting the tar and spreading the liquid tar over the roof to make a all covering but flexible roof. The rig that melted the tar tipped over, the tar caught on fire and the workers were left with the choice of jumping off the roof or burning. According to my Dad no one was seriously injured and the building did not sustain much damage, but it was exciting to see.

Any roofing technique involving flames worries me because I was brought up on that story!

A construction crew had backed the van with a dump trailer into the driveway, Ashely said. The engine overheated and caught fire while the crew was working on the roof of the house.

The transmission gave way and the van rolled down the hill and past Officer Chase Harris into a vacant lot across the street, according to Ashley.

Police arrived at the residence before the fire department and used fire extinguishers to help control flames on the yard and driveway, Ashley said.

Firefighters arrived and extinguished the vehicle fire and smaller fires near the residence.

the brake.

Although people who don't set the brake, who think putting it in Park is sufficient, are often making a huge mistake.

One nice thing about driving a stick shift is that the need to set the brake is omnipresent.
