If you're ever in a situation where you have to link up and pull someone to safety, do not hold hands. Grasp each others' wrists instead.
The human hand is a very flexible and pliant bag of bones, and can easily slip from one's grasp. When two people interlock by holding each others' wrists instead, they make a connection that is very hard to break.
