Friends of ours had 2 retired rescue greyhounds that they babied like children into old age, until one and then the other passed to doggie heaven. They loved those greyhounds so much that after a while they decided to adopt another. It was fine for a year or so, and then one day when the wife bent down to say goodbye to the dog before leaving for work, it suddenly jumped and attacked her, tearing off half her (beautiful) face. She underwent several surgeries and a long recovery. They wouldn’t let the dog be taken, and fortunately got the adoption place to take it back. But it was highly traumatic, both physically and psychologically.

Maybe that greyhound had PTSD, and her bending over the dog triggered it. Very weird.

Her entire life was racing and she had never been socialized. She was sweet natured, but it took a while for her to come out of her shell and not be afraid of strangers.

I was surprised at how large they are. Once she knew me she would stand on her hind legs, wrap her paws around my neck and hug me. Such a sweetie.
