The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWell, I just spent more than half of my stimulus money
and I haven't even received it yet. Late Saturday morning I was eating my favorite breakfast: veggie sausage patty with a buttered biscuit and cup of cinnamon tea. I had nearly finished when I bit down on a portion of the patty that was a bit chewy and CRUNCH! I fractured a tooth, the premolar on the upper left side. Today was my first opportunity to visit my dentist. 2 hours later, and $775 lighter, I feel like I've been kicked in the teeth by a mule. 2 ibuprofen and some whisky and water later, I'm feeling a bit better. Fortunately, the fracture was such that they think I can get by with just a crown, and not a root canal. I now have a temporary crown, some gum damage, and with the applied antibiotics, I am on the way to healing. Sux to be me.

(3,414 posts)It will come when it comes. I could be an optimist and say: It got here just in time (to pay off the credit card). Cest la vie. Thanks for the hug!

(17,329 posts)I like veggie sausage also. Here are two other veggie products I love:
Just Egg. I buy the liquid for cooking, but the frozen Just Egg squares for egg sandwiches.
Impossible Burger ground meat. Use it instead of hamburger for burgers or chili, spaghetti sauce, tacos anything.
Both Just Egg liquid and frozen and Impossible are all now available at Safeway. Also at sprouts, Whole Foods, and the Impossible is also at Trader Joes.

(3,414 posts)That and the whisky took away the pain in about 15 minutes. Thanks for the hug!

(206,072 posts)I've had more than one abscessed tooth (same tooth 3x!) and the pain was unbearable. I now have a "bridge," an extraction and a new permanent tooth which is attached to the tooth next to it. It's worked out well, but boy that pain was the worst!

(21,910 posts)I have more crowns than I'd like to admit. I must have weak teeth.
By the way $775 for a crown is pretty good.

(3,414 posts)Me too. I now will have almost as many crowns as I have natural teeth. And that $775 is my copay after my insurance picks up 50%. They ain't cheap, unless you go to Mexico where you pay $200 to $250 total. Since I no longer live in Texas, that isn't an option for me anymore.

(3,414 posts)Yeah, my days of enjoying hard crunchy things are long gone. I just cannot give up white corn tortilla chips. I guess the solution is to drown them in queso and let them get soggy.
