The photography group is quiet so I hope you don't mind a question here about my old digital camera.
It says in the manual to use AA rechargeable batteries. Can I use AA Alkaline? I think my rechargeable batteries bit the dust.
And, if you are familiar with the (old) Canon PowerShot A590is, how can I get rid of the icons that now show on the viewing screen? I have used this camera for years on 'auto' with no problem but(stupid me) I had to go and turn the dial to check out the other functions. I now have a bunch of white function icons on the screen and the manual does not tell me how to get rid of them and go back to the auto function.
I'm still trying how to learn to use the iPhone camera with my old Dell PC but in the meantime still want to use the Canon. You can tell I am camera/computer illiterate. Any ideas would be a great help to me.
Thanks,
PR

(33,643 posts)is if the device you put them in ... is also the recharging device of said batteries.
There's no question you can use alkaline instead as long the device isn't plugged into anything, but if you can recharge the batteries by plugging the camera into something like a USB port, or a wall wort, then ... don't do that with alkalines in place. I don't think that functionality is typical of cameras but I don't know a lot about them.
You should be able to google 'how do I get photos from my Iphone to my PC' and come up with explanations pretty easy

(7,473 posts)This old Canon camera takes good pictures and does not scare the heck out of me like the iPhone/computer process. That is next weeks job.
Don't laugh, My computer is old and so is this user.
Have a great weekend everyone. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.

(14,118 posts)not using the camera I remove one of the batteries and keep it separate in my camera bag
to prevent battery drain. When I need to use the camera I put the removed battery back
in and everything works fine, previously taken photos remain accessible and I'm good
to go. Rinse and repeat as needed.
*standard batteries, alkaline or whatever's handy
