The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy apology to the lounge. My cataract surgery has been held up since the beginning of ...
... of the pandemic. It is finally bad enough that I can have it now if I insist.
I am very sorry I've misposted so many times here, particularly today. I've found an easy remedy. It will not happen again.

VA is everything I thought it wasn't when I got out and worked at VA in'73.
It's great - responsive, caring, quality treatment. It's better the 'cadillac' HMO I had back in the day.

(26,108 posts)Aggravating but cool. My brother was awed by his experience with the VA.

(57,055 posts)... two surgeries: partial colon removal, full urine bladder removal, two complete BCG cycles and a couple of boosters, they send my supplies in plenty of time without having to order them, how well they've treated my wife, and especially how well they treated me. Being at the VA hospital was an eye-opener of what a largely homogenous piece of society it was: everybody was represented and the only racism/sexism/classism/bias of any sort expressed was ONLY from the other patient in the room who looked like me.
The absolute gentleness and care shown to me by my nurses of color (who seemed my granddaughter's age - high school) still makes me emotional. VA hospitals show me we are capable of a truly post-racial America.
To be clear: all nurses, Doctors and staff down to housekeeping were uniformly and genuinely caring to me and to each other. And totally responsive to my needs and care.

(9,662 posts)The eye doc has been onto me for about ten years to have them both done. A few months ago I about didn't pass the vision test for DL renewal and figured it was time.
Everything is brighter, uncorrected am seeing something like 20/30 or 40 and in a few weeks I'll be able to get a new eyeglass prescription corrected for astigmatism and near vision hopefully putting me near 20/20.
They are plain jane, monofocal, non-Toric lenses lenses and I should've taken care of it years ago.
Each procedure was a piece of cake though I was anxious about the first and there are a ton of eyedrops involved, but I say do it.
Good luck.

(23,620 posts)Like going from regular tv to high def (HDTV). My Dr said they were ripe last fall, but I put the procedure off until after the holidays.
It was a pretty uneventful process, but the drops are a pain.
Good luck!

(22,243 posts)and have a scrip for near and astigmatism It is really worth it.
Don't put it off any longer than you have to!
With luck, I can recycle a couple of favorite pair of frames (one of which was the most comfortable pair I have ever worn) then I can have a pair in the bedroom and a pair in my reading/computer area.
Don't need them to drive at all
Medicare will cover the basic lens but none of the fancy ones
The drops are a pain but it isn't that bad; mostly inconvenient but since I am not going anywhere it is easier to keep up with.
What I hated the most was that damn eye shield you have to tape on your eye so you don't put pressure on it while sleeping. I could not see to read in bed because the lensed eye was a mess, and glasses did not sit well on my face so could not read with my other eye.
I was also very pleased when I could bend over again!
