Cracker Barrel is okay if you are on the road. A bit crowded, noisy and high school cafeteria-ish. dameatball Apr 2021 #13

We used to stop at Cracker Barrel when we drove to Asheville. Not my choice but I wasn't driving.

After several days of eating rich Southern food, my younger daughter looked at me imploringly after perusing the menu at dinner -

"Can't I just have a salad, Mom?"

Hmph. California kids.

I always anxiously await Michigan's blueberry season. Pancakes, muffins, pies, scones, and handfuls of fresh berries. Ok, now my mouth is watering.

No flavor or spice and even light on the salt and pepper.

It is better than Denny's...so there is that and the store has Necco wafers if such things appeal to you.

No place else--chain or mom and pop--has come close to duplicating it.

Yes, it's basically to Southern cooking what Olive Garden is to Italian food, yes it's terribly unhealthy in mass quantities, and yes, it sometimes attracts a certain obnoxious crowd, but overall it's not terrible food.

The gift shop is fun to browse through and I love the little peg games on the table and the knick-knacks on the walls.

One of those staples of interstate dining I have a soft spot for, I guess.

Nothing beats the Waffle House, of course.

Fortunately, just for breakfast. Me? I'm not a fan. At all. BUT, he was driving so I just didn't feel it was my place to argue. Now, a couple of mimosa would have made the meal much more tolerable.

good coffee and great biscuits.

Their fried okra is pretty good and the chicken and dumplings are superior. Good chicken and dumplings are a gift from the gods.

Now, I love Matt and his "Bless Your Rank" videos! He compares fast food, beverages, and other edibles. He is so funny and deadpan.

As a native Southerner I appreciate all the videos and always get a laugh. They are gently humerous with a touch of satire but nothing mean.

Check them out on You Tube.
