(35 posts)Unbelieve that it is too small! It's crucial to protect and preserve that wild animal.

(11,683 posts)My daughter is one of the those who loved snakes, spiders, and bats. So many people allow their feelings to make animals creepy and damn the world to "no icky things" at a loss to all.
Baby bat came to show how tuned-in it was to the rehabilitate efforts. That has to be the first time I have ever heard of such a marvelous thing as a bat being attached to a human motherly figure.
Then off he went on his own. Well done.

(12,470 posts)That find rats adorable,
Spiders cute,bats just sweet little things,snakes just beautiful,scorpions cool..etc.
But my heart belongs to the felines most of all.

(11,683 posts)That is something I believe. Even a Grizzly Bear or man-eating Tiger is doing nothing other than they are designed.
When I worked for a State Agency seeking to find endangered Rattlesnakes (Eastern Massasauga, Prairie, and Timber), I had a person curse at me for caring about those dangerous creepy animals. These people freak out over something that will never affect there lives (hasn't been a death by a snake in the state for nearly 100 years) but hold dear guns which are as dangerous to their well being as can be.

I had to give her up when I moved out of my mom's house because when you are disabled on ssi you cannot own a house, and my mom made a dumb investment. I couldn't bring her to my hud apartment. The landlord thought snakes were icky and scary.
I gave her to my friend who's a veterinarian, she loves snakes and was making a huge snake room for her snakes and wanted a boa.
I know Kali is in loving hands. But I miss her so much .
She got to be almost 8 foot long in my care and was a very tame sweetheart. I'd take her for walks in my neighborhood in the summer, she was like a heat sink and really loved riding on me wrapped around my waist with her tail tucked in my pocket for balance.
Here's a pick of my sweet Kali.

We are long time bat lovers; being cavers in our youth probably had something to do with that
From the time she was very young, our daughter received a toy stuffed bat of some variety at Christmas whenever I found one she did not already have.
She has a number of them with her in Arizona, and I have started looking for new ones for her daughter, who will be 2 in August. So far I have given her 2 small ones, perfect for a little one's hands.
both Bat Conservation International and Speleobooks ( http://www.speleobooks.com/ ) have "Batty-Bat" items of all kinds for sale.

(34,384 posts)We had an upstairs porch that overlooked our backyard and a little grape arbor that my husband enclosed in chicken wire that we christened "the cat deck." The cats loved hanging out there.
One night at some ungodly hour, I woke up to a really loud whirring sound. My husband was still awake downstairs when I heard him yelling at me to get up. Tom, one of our cats, had caught a bat. We managed to get Tom to drop the bat, but our other four cats started stalking it so it was quite the circus trying to wrangle them out of the room. Thank goodness for French doors, lol. The little guy proceeded to fly in a panic around the living room, even wedging himself behind a wall clock. We were finally able to trap it under a colander after we removed the clock then slipped a book between the bat and the wall and carried it outside. I placed the little bat in a bush to let him recover. The tiny guy was panting and I swear I could hear his little heart beating a mile a minute. After a little bit, he managed to gather his wits about him and fly away.
I was really tired the next day at work.
Even though there had been no reports of bats carrying rabies in the area, I was glad the cats were all vaccinated, just in case. I guess word got around the local bat community because it never happened again. I'm still amazed at the loud, sonic, whirring sound that little creature produced. It was fascinating.
