(3,425 posts)We took him in and fed him and some wonderful lady from some bird welfare group came by to pick him up and took him to rehab. At the time I did not trust my cats enough to care for him at my home.
Your little bird seems to have a friend in your little puppy and it looks like they will be friends.

(11,683 posts)Heart warming story of a fallen pigeon finding a rewarding relationship with caring humans!
Farmers ask me to take the young birds, after they blocked off entrances of nesting adult pigeons into barns. I can attest that young pigeons will beg for food to the point of sticking their beaks right in your face demanding to be fed. As, two days before the pigeon eggs hatch, both the parents' crops become engorged with fluid-filled cells. The pigeon parents regurgitate this thick milky goop into the mouths of their squabs. This crop milk remains the squabs' only food for several days after hatching.
You can see Herman the pigeon is quite interested in young animals as any adult male pigeon would be. A virus or injury disrupted the birds very complex semi-circular canal and/or lumbosacral organ. Not to get to technical but a birds' balance, and body positioning, are very acute and rapid. Herman's odd head positioning and loss of flight seems to indicate this injury.
