The other thing could have been a person walked outside not realizing she was on their shoulder. That happened to my Mom when we were kids. She had a jacket on to go out and take in the laundry (before dryers folks) and Tweety flew on her shoulder. My Mom didn't realize she was there until she flew away.

What was equally sad was it was the middle of winter, freezing cold winter, cold enough for the laundry to freeze. Poor tweety probably didn't last much longer than an hour.

We put her house outside and took turns until it got dark whistling for her and calling her name. But like I said, it was the dead of winter, there was no way she survived the night.

previous parakeet, also blue, had died a few months earlier, so my parents and siblings were as thrilled as I was.
