Why are dreams so strange?

I dreamt that someone was going to make a movie about the Green Giant. I was in the town where they were going to film the movie. Then whoever was going to film it changed their mind. I saw the actor who was going to play the Green Giant standing on the corner of the main intersection. He was about 30 feet tall and looked pretty glum. He was wearing green scrubs and he was missing a shoe and a sock.

I like to interpret the imagery of my dreams, but I admit defeat.

You’ve triggered the jolly green giant alarm

Other than that bit of fun:

Green scrubs/missing shoe/sock: virus keeping people out of work, impacting earning? Even those ideally suited for a job?

Here is a god article on interpretations using active imagination.

Ask yourself what the green giant represents to you.

... associate the imagery and events to recent events or recent thoughts in my awake world, mixed together in random ways.

Sometimes, however, they're too bizarre and "creative" to ever figure them out in that way.

Edit: If the sleep analysis from my Fitbit is accurate, I only remember dreams if I awake during REM sleep. Most of the time, I awake from a "light sleep" stage.

of the recommendations for us was to record our dreams every night. About the same time
a report came out that it was found that dreams are the result of random brain activity so
I latched onto that to avoid waking up at night to record my dreams. I still subscribe to
that.

while I'm drinking coffee. I like writing, and thought if I kept a dream log, it would keep my creative writing skills sharp. I try to be as detailed as possible and use the right word to describe the dream. I don't think I dream right after I go to sleep, seems like the dreams happen closer to morning.

Perhaps you're unconsciously concerned about the sufficiency of the medical response to the pandemic?

It means that at some point in the future, you will eat corn kernels that have come from a can.

You think I'm kidding of course, but when it happens, remember your dream foretold this outcome.

Maybe it's my age or the medications I'm on.

The part that I do like is that when I dream I have to find a bathroom I wake up and realize I need to go to take a leak.

In my dreams I have visited a wide variety of bathrooms in a wide variety of places all over the world.

I hope they always cause me to wake up.
