I'm a runner and biker and certainly don't need to be inside to exercise during these beautiful spring days, but I also wouldn't mind some weight lifting for toning.
I had initially planned to wait to go to the gym once we were in the final throes of the pandemic in the fall or winter, but I will be fully vaccinated in a few weeks. Does it make sense to join a 24 hour gym where I can duck in and out during a quiet period to do a 15-20 minute workout with weights? I was also thinking of investing in a set of dumbbells, but they are a lot pricier than I expected.
Anyone else though about this?

Id rather do it at home anyhow. The culture at most gyms makes me a little uncomfortable.

(170,209 posts)I have always exercised at home, dislike being around sweaty people. I have sets for 1lb, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20 and 25, as well as well as some kettle bells of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30lb. I use fitness DVDs and do some streaming workouts too.
If you're doing home exercise, also get some stretch bands, those things work great for toning.

we can do it
(13,014 posts)We spent a quite a bit setting us up at home. Luckily we already had dumbbells up to 30 lbs. Added a super nice treadmill, climber, bands with anchor system.

(71,876 posts)I'm going for a 3-mile walk every day, and lifting my dumbbells at home when I remember to.
But my gym's solid, strenuous workouts are still the best way for me to tone up.

(4,994 posts)Masked. I also use the recumbent bike and the treadmill but not as often as I used to. I'm old, I'm vaccinated, the gym isn't crowded, and they're Covid-conscious. But I don't blame people who'd rather not risk it.

(4,445 posts)I'm just been walking around the neighborhood in the meantime, but I'm not burning as many calories as I would be from one of my pre COVID cardio workouts.
I've been back to Pilates in the Studio since 2/15/21. Classes were restricted to 50% capacity until a week ago, now they are at full capacity which is 12 students. I still feel safe there though. The reformers are all at least 6 feet away from each other and everyone is wearing a mask.
So, mid May I'll be back at L.A. Fitness!

I'm careful, even wear gloves. However, social distancing is not a problem,
that can't be easily dealt with.
