and I understand Gaye was transformative in music history. So I come here as a place where people who know this history can share their thoughts and information that can help me. I love Marvin Gaye's music and thought it was a tragedy when he died. I remember his music and what fun it was in Jazzercise hearing him singing "I Heard it Through the Grapevine."
Thanks in advance for letting me know what you do about this wonderful musician...

(12,904 posts)One year we got a new Kentucky Fried restaurant in our little town. (A huge deal!). It has been open a couple months, and my mom had made a deal with the day manager to cook chicken gizzards for her lunch once a week.
One day she went to get her lunch, and Marvin Gayes tour bus was there. The Marvin Gaye heard my mom ask for her special order gizzards, and do you know what he did next?
He asked the manager if he could have gizzards, too! They made them for him.
A few years later, he was gone.

(7,947 posts)Those great years he had as a duet with Tammi Terrell. They were wonderful together, until she was diagnosed with brain cancer and died very very young. They were incandescent as a duo.
