My sons encountered that a few times. Job they were wasting time applying for offered lower salary than their current job.

All these responses are great.
Fortunately I was able to stay in the same position for a long spell at the end of my wage-serf years. (The work situation was quite the mixed bag, but it was mostly tolerable. And at least I didn't have to go on any more job interviews!)
