Confession Tuesday:

At the grocery store, I prefer to stand in line for a cashier, even if the self checkout is wide open.

Cashiers need their jobs and wages and I’m not interested in paying a store that’s already getting my money to do a cashier’s job for free.

Yeah, I support retail workers when I can, because theirs jobs are already tough and they need to be put into a position of necessity wherever automation is competing with them.

This has been a Confession Tuesday.

After 60 years of cashiers and after working long days I don't feel like scanning crap.

Can you get someone to help me please?

and for exactly the same reason. These people need to keep their jobs. They need the income. And, besides, I find that most of them are very friendly, and I really enjoy the personal interaction.

If it's lunch time, the self-checkout is usually backed up anyway. But if it isn't and I only have a couple of items, I'll use it.

But when I do a normal store trip, with more than 5-6 items I like to use the cashier line.
