English rock band Genesis is returning to the U.S. for their first tour in 14 years. Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford announced The Last Domino? Tour on Thursday, which will kick off in Chicago on Nov. 15.
The 14-date tour will also visit Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Montreal, Toronto, Buffalo, Detroit, Cleveland and Philadelphia. The trek wraps in Boston on Dec. 15. Genesis will play two shows in the New York area: They visit Madison Square Garden in New York City on Dec. 5 and will play the brand-new UBS Arena in Belmont Park on Dec. 10.
Tickets for the general public go on sale May 7. On the tour, Collins, Banks and Rutherford will be joined by their longtime guitar and bass player Daryl Stuermer and Nic Collins on drums.
Genesis last U.S. tour was 2007s Turn It On Again: The Tour.

(12,132 posts)but then a friend introduced me to their older stuff and I kicked myself for never exploring past the Collins-era radio hits. This might be my last chance to see one of the biggest rock acts of that era. Gonna have to be road trip though. Nothing less than a full day's drive away from me at the moment.

(12,132 posts)that if this mini-tour goes well they will do more dates in 2022 and hopefully that will include more south and west.
But I didn't want to take that chance so I bought 2 tix this morning to the closest show to me.
Crossing my fingers for you!

(102,119 posts)years ago, and along with some alcoholism issues, I wasn't sure he'd ever play/tour again.
I hope he has returned to health.

(12,132 posts)he's only singing. I think it will be his son on drums - Nic Collins?
Anyway, Charlotte is closest show to me which is about a 10 hour drive as much as I have to stop to to pee lol. I registered to be _considered_ for the presale. (If more people register than there are tickets then someone gets the boot). I have no expectation there will still be tickets when the presale ends. My step mom and half-brother live in Charlotte so we'll probably stop by and see them too lol. IF we get to go.
I may get in to the presale and then find out tix are 500 bucks. I hope not though.
It sure wouldn't have hurt my feelings if they had invited Peter Gabriel though.

(10,970 posts)I'm not holding out hope, but it would be nice if he was able to muster the strength to play a little section in 9/8.

(12,132 posts)but if not, at least I can still say I actually saw them. My wife got her first Moderna shot this morning and will be ready for a show by November lol.
I do LIKE the Collins-era radio hits but they never excited me like Rush does. But my friend who was a huge Rush fan clued me in to the good stuff so I am super-excited for this and I will be kinda crushed if I don't get in. Although less-so if they announce some 2022 dates that may even be closer. My friend passed away about 6 years ago and I guarantee he would have been riding shotgun on a road trip to wherever was closest. We saw Rush together like 6 times in the last few years of his life and those were some of the best trips of my life and I kinda gotta see Genesis for him as much as me. He'll be with me in spirit.

(10,970 posts)It was the last time they played predominantly old material (Supper's Ready in its entirety!) - I was 12 and not old enough to really appreciate that I was seeing something special. I've grown to appreciate the hits, but Duke and earlier is what I really love.

Don't ever try driving across Oklahoma.
I did that around 2003 and there's one rest stop along the interstate.
One east bound; one west bound.

(12,132 posts)so I wouldn't go to Oklahoma for a free lunch if I didn't have to.
(Just teasin', Oklahoma Dems. I love you all.)

(10,970 posts)They were magnificent. The light show at the Hollywood Bowl made it look like the hills were on fire.
Saw Phil in 2019, I think (it gets fuzzy in the before times) and he looked FRAIL. Sang great though, sat for the bulk of the show, and played some hand drum thing at one point. I'm not going to miss this because it does look like the last chance to see them.
I was lamenting them not coming west of the Mississippi, and when I mentioned on FB, a friend who is a big shot concert promoter in Phoenix left a one word message "Patience".
So I'm figuring they'll hit the South and West in 2022, assuming all goes well.

(12,132 posts)bought us 2 tickets and booked a hotel room in November. Gonna make along weekend of it and visit some family too.
Got the 3rd lowest row in the upperest deck in the back corner but I've certainly had worse seats at an arena show. I could have gone closer to the ceiling for about half the price but I'm happy with what we got.
