They are by far my favorite birds. I'm friends with a common raven who, for part of the year, lives at the clinic where I work.

My favorites too. So damn smart.. You're lucky to be pals with a raven. I go hiking up in the trees where they are common and try to be conspicuous in leaving some kind of nuts for them, but so far have not drawn any in. I bet they know who I am by now though.
Down here in the valley, West Nile impacted crows and magpies about 15 years ago. Especially magpies - just don't see them as much as we once did though there was a bit of a resurgence several years ago.
