Also: Just about any movie scored by the late John Barry... (e.g., 'Out of Africa," "Midnight Cowboy," "Body Heat," "Somewhere in Time," "Dances With Woves," "Chaplin," "The Cotton Club," etc. )

There are scores of scores I could cite, however.

The Breakfast Club is a classic from my generation
Something about movies that define generations tend to have pretty good soundtracks.

(11,850 posts)It turns out that I didn't, so I fixed it.
Anytime the song Footloose comes on the radio while I'm driving no matter how old I am, the radio volume gets cranked up.

(34,189 posts)When I bought a truck. All the way from Gainesville to Tallahassee, I played that music at full volume. I need to see if I still have that CD - that truck was the first vehicle I ever owned with a CD player in it, so that's what I got - it also had a cassette player - both in the dash!
Even though I don't know what you actually look like, I can see a silhouette of a person singing and dancing in the drivers seat to the music. I hope that you still have that CD.

(34,189 posts)I also wore out the first CD I ever bought - Tangerine Dream's Encore. I'd heard they had a new album out, went to buy it (on Christmas Eve, no less
), and it was only in CD format - which was brand new. So after Christmas, I had to go buy a CD player to listen to it. That was an agonizing few days - I had the new album but couldn't listen to it!
Eventually it just wouldn't play - in the CD player, the computer CD (which I had by then), or the car CD player (ditto). It would skip and play static. So I had to get another copy.
Yeah, I just checked - I don't have Footloose anymore. I just got out all my CDs and ripped them so I could put them on thumb drives to play in the cars. No Footloose or Kenny Loggins
in the list. Heck, maybe I should just download the soundtrack you linked to!

(4,044 posts)James Horner was 27 when wrote that music.
Also, Horner wrote Star Trek III, which has equally amazing music. It's a very majestic and moody soundtrack.
And the worst, for music, was ST:IV.

The scene in West Side Story when everyone is anticipating the upcoming evening for various reasons (romance for some, a rumble for others) is a fantastic blend of tunes that builds up the tension and sets the tone for what follows.
