One of the best musicals in recent history.
It is always complicated to cast an adult in a teenager role but this was always Ben Platt's role. I can overlook that to see him in it.
Love the music. The song featured in the trailer is one of my favorite uplifting songs of all time.

(9,291 posts)The first movie that Universal made coming out of COVID. Had to have Ben Platt. Looking forward to this, now I just need to feel ok in a movie theater.

(5,524 posts)I became obsessed with the Soundtrack long before I was ever able to see it. I was amazed at how much acting went into his vocal performance just on the soundtrack. You could hear the angst of the character in the music.
However, I have to confess, I saw it in a traveling production in South Florida. I was expecting to be disappointed that it was going to be a non-Ben lead. I have to tell you I was pleasantly shocked that the guy was actually better than I would have expected from Ben himself. There are some amazingly talented people out there.
I am actually more interested in how the rest of the cast performs. I think one of the things that kills musical movies is that they go for star power over vocal talent. Some pleasantly surprise me (Anne Hathaway, Rosario Dawson or Renee Zellwiger) but some are just sub-par ( Richard Gere, Russell Crowe, Meryl Streep, Etc.). I realize those might be fightin words but I think Broadway gets a bad rap when it gets presented by people whose talents aren't as strong vocally.
