(24,333 posts)She was used to breed a litter of pups, and then just abandoned and left to starve in the woods in south-central VA.
My son dropped by the shelter one day after work just to look around, and she went right to him, sat at his feet, and then followed him around the shelter wherever he went.
He told me later, "Dad, I had no choice. She adopted me."
(On a related note, I believe that people who abuse animals should have the shit kicked out of them.)

(4,732 posts)Very sociable, too. Fun video, thanks for posting.
is a very loving dog. Mine likes to give and receive kisses, but he's not a hugger. He's also very much a mama's boy. He loves his mom. I'm jealous. When she's out of town, he sleeps at the foot of the bed on her side. Unless it's cold inside, he just doesn't want to be near me. When she's home, he sleeps up against her torso.
He loves french fries (sparingly), carrots, potatoes, rice, ham (sparingly), peas... he's a weirdo. He stopped eating dry food about a year ago, so we roast him up chicken thighs with bone broth. Mix it with long grain brown rice and veggies including; carrots, peas, and sweet potato. We do sneak some dry food into his dish on occasion. If he's being particularly picky, we scramble up an egg with a bit of ham and mix it in. He loves that. He's really getting up there. He's a rescue so we really don't know how old he is, but we've had him for nearly 11 years. The vet aged him at approximately 18 months when we got him.
He has a host of issues including congestive heart disease. He takes about 10 pills and 2 drops of eye drops twice daily. He's a really good pill taker, as long as we give him either ham, cheese, or peanut butter along with the pills.
He is simply the best dog that I've ever had. He's very calm and patient and loves to be with his peoples. He likes to take a drive as often as he can. He like to people watch when we're out. He bitc.es at the neighbors sometimes across the fence, but his bark is way worse than his bite.
Not sure why I decided to share that. I suppose the dog in the video just reminded me how grateful we are to have a dog like Jack. He got his name in the car-ride home from the rescue. We kept trying one name after the other. He responded to Jack, so... He's been known as Jack ever since. He came to that name from the moment we said it in the car. He's a black and white English Cocker Spaniel. He loves to play ball - although not as much these days. When we got him, I'd take him into the back yard and throw the ball for him. He'd race to get it, and return it to me dropping it at my feet. He'd set down and wait for me to pick it up and throw it again. That lasted about a month. He now likes to get the ball and come about 2/3rds of the way back and lay down and chew on it until he's ready to run again - then he brings it to me. I'm not a demanding dad. He gets to do whatever he wants for the most part - he's THAT much a good boy. He has a very large fenced back yard and a dog door that he gets to go in and out of as he pleases. The yard is surrounded with motion sensor lights. I believe he really likes turning them on, as every time he goes out, every single light (about 10) come on. The only mess that he's ever made in the house was my fault. I roasted a chicken for dinner one evening. When we finished, I picked the chicken off of the bone and gave him quite a bit of it not realizing that ecoli masses around the base of the meat near the bone. He got very sick and had an accident on the kitchen floor. I felt so bad for him. The vet fixed him up promptly though.
Sorry about all of that. I guess I love my dog. He's laying next to me at the moment. I reached over and gave him a good rub on his back. He kissed my hand. I guess it was a thank you. I wish I knew how to speak dog.
