The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsNice young couple moving into neighborhood. Well don't know how young/nice. Spoiler: Woodpeckers.
(I don't like to suspense people with anti-spoilers.)
*** So, this dude (yes, a dude) is peck-peck-peck, him all buried inside a cavern he's building in a tree trunk, I interrupted to see what's going on. You know how it is when you're doing something and a neighbor butts in to chew fat, like now-is-not-the-time/I'm-BUSY?
Also, when you get home and would like to GET HOME relax-first but kids and dogs want to jump on you?
*** But years ago, this dude woody reported to his work for two weeks, pecking away to make a hollow/home, ending with a PERFECT round place in a trunk, with a BEVELED edge entrance. And then he brought his lady for approval, and he perched on a nearby branch while she looked it over and went inside.
Then she emerged and apparently the answer was "no" because they flew off (together) never to be seen again. No fault no harm - MY heart broke.

(28,493 posts)when I moved in some 12 years ago. Ever since, I've watched them raise babies. So far this year no sign of them, and I'm not sure why. It may be that the nests are so gross by now that they simply don't want them any more. Sigh.
