(38,958 posts)PBS Newshour or stream France 24, NHK, BBC or DW news if not available on your local PBS World Channel. Leave behind the corporate drama that is only there to fill airtime between ads for drugs we never knew we needed.

I can't figure out the Tim Scotts and Lester Holts of the world, who politically back the same people who hate their guts and want them dead. Maybe someone can explain that someday.

(13,365 posts)I just thought that Liberal would like a heads up that his news is coming from a right wing NBC talking head, which could be relevant to the OP writer.
Most of us don't watch Fox to avoid the right wing bias. And for the same reason, we should recognize and not put up with similar right wing bias from the networks.
During Bush/Cheney regime Lester was Brokaw's yes man protégé. Some DU'ers may want to know this stuff about who they are listening to.

(9,062 posts)It's the same three commercials looped over and over. Sometimes they'll run the same commercial twice during one commercial break. I saw the same commercial 6 times or more during one half-hour show. I accept that ads are fundamentally required, but good grief. If you are making your content consumers switch off their televisions in anger, you are doing it wrong.

(40,691 posts)My wife and I mostly watch Netflix or DVDs.
On the internet I subscribe to sites I enjoy. On many sites subscribing makes the ads go away, just as it does on DU. uBlock Origin protects me from the rest.
I've become intolerant of advertising that moves, makes noise, or takes up more than a quarter of the screen. I don't block advertising on sites where advertising is unobtrusive.
Many of the sites I visit are technical so mostly I see ads for industrial components and scientific equipment.

(13,369 posts)Ads would be limited
To 2 ads an hour.
Advertisers would send out 1 book all ads would be 1/4 of a page. We need something we call them.
All billboards by corporations selling shit will be banned.
We need to reclaim our mental space.
Advertising has saturated america and they need to be controlled. Some boundaries.

(35,995 posts)30 minute shows now have ads at the 10 minute mark for about 3 minutes, the AGAIN at 15 minute mark for another 3 minutes, AND AGAIN AT THE 20 minute mark for ANOTHER 3 Minutes. Funny now tho, they have so many 10, and 15 second ads that it does seem like more BUT DAMN, a 30 minute time slot show is really about a 21 minute show.

(13,369 posts)There has to be limits.
Business has taken up too much space. Too much time and they like it like that.
There was a saying the tv content is the bullshit between commercials.
That additude needs to be shut down. Profit is not everything.
I hate capitalism.
