Remember that infographic about people who thought they could win a fight with a bear?

Text

Remember that infographic that went around a few weeks ago about animal attacks, and how some people thought they could fight a bear? No mate, no you can't.

The embedded picture shows the humongous size of a grizzly bear's paw.

which doesn't diminish your point. Not one bit. The few times I've been surprised by or surprised black bears are plenty.

IF (emphasis on if) the only thing between me, without bear spray or firearm, and a charging grizzly bear was a climbable tree. Same thing with a black bear. No need to limit ones options.

Bear spray good.

I've heard this enough times to know there is a delusional sector of the populace, largely male, who think somehow "I am therefore I'm inherently superior."

I wonder if the best martial artist on earth would have a chance
against an angry chimp?

(Cage match) Human could have 3 inch blade.

Somewhere in human evolution we lost, iirc, something like 50% or better of our muscle strength compared to other apes. Not sure why. I’ve read some speculation that it had to do with a trade-off for gaining endurance for running, but no one knows for sure.

A 4 foot tall male chimp is, roughly, at least twice as strong as a 6 foot+ male human. But they aren’t trained to fight like a martial artist, so that would be a slight advantage for the human. OTOH, they’re not built like we are, don’t have the same center of gravity or pivot points, their heads/jaws are structurally tougher and they have four grasping appendages plus big canines. So they don’t have all the same points of vulnerability as a human body, which would be a disadvantage for the human.

Male chimps do hunt and kill males from ‘rival’ chimp troops in the wild. There have been numerous attacks by chimps on humans. AFAICT, the only thing that stopped them or drove them off was getting shot. No one ever fought them off.

Fish, Wildlife & Parks euthanized it after it killed 5 calves near Avon, MT. Once the wardens examined the bear carcass after it was skinned, it was clearly underweight and sick...so sad for a 6-7 year old bear in its prime. Anyway, it was a small grizzly and it was still BIG, I can tell you. His claws were almost twice the length of my fingers.
