We were in band together, and we really didn't like each other very much. Never saw him again after seventh grade, forty years ago.
He turned up on my clinic schedule on Friday, and I recognized his name right off; it's not a common name.
When I entered the exam room, I introduced myself and asked him if he had gone to X Junior High. He said "Yes", then I explained who I was. He brightened up and said "Oh YEAH! How are you?"
The kids' stuff bad-blood was forgotten, and we really enjoyed getting to meet again after so many decades. I hope we made each other's day...

Was he surprised to find you'd become a physician, or did he expect it of you?

(16,926 posts)I am a "high-performance" driving instructor and one day I got into a nice, new Corvette to spend 3 hours working with a new "student."
I, like you, recognized the driver's name immediately (also, not very common) and proceeded to ask a few questions about things I remembered from WAY back (we'd been classmates from K to 12!). Because of the way we are assigned students there's no 'introduction' until you get into the car - and by that time we both have helmets on and you can't tell WHO IT IS!
So, after the first few questions he realized it was 'somebody' that knew him and I told him who I was. It was a GREAT day at the track and we both had a lot of fun catching up after close to 50 years!

I was looking at some pictures a couple days ago, from that time of myself.
I don't look that different!
But like Aerosmith in their song "Dream On," "All those lines in my face getting clearer..."
