(14,492 posts)The top vote getters were Purple Softstretch, bamboo sheets (no specific brand, so I bought a set from Target), and Tuft and Needle percale.
A lot of people kept recommending high thread count sheets, but I have read in numerous places that high thread counts tend to be hotter, and that for a cool sheet, to go with less than 500. Also, very high count sheets' numbers tend to be "fudged" anyway, so they can be marketed at a higher price.
I favored the T&N sheets for feeling crisp and cool, but all three were good quality.
The Purple sheets were super soft, but I didn't like how my toes would get stuck when I tried to stretch out under them, since they would stretch instead of moving. But I love the fitted sheet. Oh, these sheets are also quite heavy (as in weight) and took much longer to dry. The weight didn't seem to make them hotter though.

The bamboo sheets were nice and silky, but the top sheet shifted around a lot as I rolled around in bed (since I don't like top sheets to be tucked in), and they also wrinkled a lot, but that could vary by brand. I wouldn't know since I only bought one set.

This is the Tuft and Needle set I bought. Very nice, crisp, cool, good fit, all-around elastic. One thing I learned since these were my first ever expensive sheet purchases is that I will NEVER EVER go back to corners-only elastic!!!

(56,829 posts)I have given up finding new ones and keep my eye in thrift shops now (or at least until the pandemic, haven't been in a thrift shop since fall of 2019)

(14,492 posts)I think there is no way to rank one best because it is really down to which kind of texture one likes. I would say each one I tried were very good quality.

(4,123 posts)Plus they last for years. I use wool dryer balls and not fabric softener which I feel builds up on the fabric. Remove from the dryer and fold before they get wrinkled, or better yet line dry outdoors for the best nights sleep ever. You know that smell of line dried clothes........aaaaaahhhhhh 😌

(34,189 posts)When we bought our new mattress, they gave us a set of bamboo sheets. They were too slippery for my taste and not really deep enough to fit the mattress properly. Since I am a restless sleeper, my upper corner kept coming off.
Lower than 300 count, they seem scratchy; higher and they start to get thin, flimsy feeling.
My husband likes cotton sateen sheets, thinner than percale and smoother. They just don't feel right to me. Any cotton/polyester blend seems as though it pills quickly and the little nubs of fiber bother me.
When I shopped for the new sheets to replace the free ones, I bought percale cotton, 300 count, with really deep corners. I couldn'f find the color I wanted but they fit the mattress and stay on.
