I'm over 60 now, should I just throw in the towel and you kids stay off my lawn?

(12,265 posts)I also don't get the idea of posting half nude pictures on FB and other social media. I have a 20 year old niece who posts pictures of herself in bikinis all the time. She has a beautiful body, but I don't get the need to share it all the time. I'm over 65 so there is that to consider.

(115,836 posts)until you posted this, and then I had to look it up. Sadly, I don't think my trapping would be very thirst-provoking, so I guess I'll go chase the kids off my lawn.

(70,581 posts)Thirst Trap
A sexy photograph or flirty message posted on social media for the intent of causing others to publicly profess their attraction. This is done not to actually respond or satisfy any of this attraction, but to feed the posters ego or need for attention, at the expense of the time, reputation and sexual frustration of those who view the image or reply.

(11,878 posts)As an artist and practicing Buddhist, I have struggled with the rise in toxic emotions that participation in Instagram causes in me. While I love the positive comments and the expanded community of artists I can communicate with, I feel unhealthy competitiveness arises from time to time and some bitterness if my work is not received as I would like. It also causes doubts to arise about my standing in the community and the value of my work. I feel a spike in competitiveness when I see others actually selling work when I am not. None of this bothered me before I began to participate in social media.
In 2019, I had the very well-received gallery exhibits and sold 20k of art, not of it had anything to do with social media. Yet stagnation on Instagram grinds me down and gives rise to doubt.
My thirty-seven-year-old niece is an IT specialist, and she is always yelling at me to increase my social media profile, but I think my spiritual health is more valuable to my work practice than a couple of likes from strangers.
I shudder to think of its effect on my teen granddaughters' fledgling sexuality and developing body image. Thirsty-Trap? I cringe when they insist on sticking their tounges out in selfies.
Kind of a long share, but JMHO.

(63,221 posts)I just looked it up and had no idea what it was before today.
Now that I do, I think it's pretty stupid and narcissistic, but I am not on most popular forms of social media where i have to put up with people constantly posting pictures of themselves. The self-absorption of so many people these days is just unbelievable.
